What happens when a polyethene or acete rod is rubbed against a duster?
[Back]

1)The friction allows the electrons on the duster to gain enough energy to jump onto the polythene rod 2)The polythene rod has gained electrons giving it a negative charge, the duster loses electrons giving it a positive charge 3)However for the acete rod, the electrons jump off onto the duster giving it a negative charge and the acete rod gets a positive charge.

How does static electricity happen?
When 2 insulating materials rub against each other as insulators hold the electrons and remain static. However in conductors, the electrons are moving.
What does a van de graff generator do?
Removes electrons giving a person a positive charge. Their hair follicles are positively charged so the repel the person and stand on end.
How does a spark happen?
If an electric field is strong enough the electrons can pass through insulators such as air and a spark will occur.
What is an electric field?
When a region where charge experiences a force.
What is the formula for density?
Density(kg/m^3)=mass(kg)/volume(m^3)
How mesure the volume of irregular objects?
1)Mesure the mass of the object using a pan balance 2)Fill eureka can untill water level with bottom of pipe 3)Place mesuring cylinder under the pipe ready to collect water 4)Carefully lower object into the eureka can till no more water runs 5)Mesure volume of water 6)Use info to calculat density
