QuestionAnswer
Why may Muslims believe the Shahadah unites religious believers?Muslims may believe the Shahadah unite religious believers due to Ibrahim uncovering monotheism in Christianity and Islam. Abraham was the first-ever human to reject the Islamic belief of polytheism for monotheism; though Ibrahim was neither a Christian nor a Muslim yet united the religions in their truth of only having one true God. The quote from the Quran, “Ibraham… was an upright man, the Hanif (non-religious though believing of Tawhid) who had surrendered (to Allah)” infers Muslims (and Christians) can only give themselves to God through being monotheistic. Therefore Muslims may believe the Shahadah unites religious believers through the oneness of God in Christianity and Islam.
Why do Muslims believe the Shahadah is the key to Paradise?Muslims believe the Shahadah is the key to Paradise because it reassures their salvation. The belief reinforced daily in Muslim’s lives, “There is no God but Allah and Muhammed his Prophet (And Ali is the friend of God,” ensures they receive salvation by accepting Allah in their lives consistently. Each time they believe the statement they say they ensure their salvation and therefore entrance into Paradise. Therefore Muslims believe the Shahadah is the key to Paradise because it ensures salvation.
Why would a Muslim consider the Shahadah to be the most important pillar of Islam?A Muslim may consider the Shahadah to be the most important pillar of Islam because it established believers. The Qur’an quote, “How shall God guide a people who disbelieved after their belief and (after) they had borne witness”, suggests if a Muslim does practice the Shahadah after they are whispered it at birth, their faith is unconsolidated. Ergo if someone were to undervalue, neglect, or say the Shahadah with insincerity, Allah would come to believe they their faith was insincere. Without this belief, even if someone practice Salat and Sawm, they would still, in the eyes of Allah, not be Muslim. Therefore Muslims consider the Shahadah to be the most important pillar of Islam as it ensures they are legitimate Muslims.
How does the Qur’an suggest Zakah and Salat are the most important pillars? The Qur’an infers Zakah and Salat define are the most important pillars as it states, “But if they repent and establish worship and pay the poor-due, then are they your brethren in religion”, which suggests giving charity and prayer also have the ability to establish believers as Muslims.
