Question:

When is the extension is directly proportional to the force?

Author: Alana Ray

Answer:

The extension is directly proportional to the force when the straight line of the extension against the force applied graph goes through zero. However, if a greater force is applied, the extension will no longer be directly proportional to the force because the spring has been stretched beyond its limit of proportionality so it won’t be able to return to its original length if the force is removed
