Great question.
We have had a working prototype of this for over a year, but it never made the cut - we found (back then) that is was not accurate enough and too awkward.
I've added this to the vote list, if it is a popular request we will revisit it and see what we can do now technology has improved.

We have reintroduced our implementation of OCR.
It will go live in the next update (a few days).
It will be available in the create course screen (it will be under "bulk import" when it goes live), we think it works good on the books we tried for testing, but open to further feedback to optimize it.
