Christmas Day Poem 2021 | Twas the night before Christmas and all through the lands
Through hills and through valleys, through shimmering sands
People were trav’lling, to (their) hometowns were sent
So Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem went. |
People were trav'lling, to (their) hometowns were sent
So Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem went.
... | Twas the night, (o’ the) first Christmas and all through the skies
Many angels were singing such sweet lullabies
Of glory to God and peace on the earth
BIG words to be sung for a small baby’s birth. |
Of glory to God and peace on the earth
BIG words to be sung for a small baby’s birth.
... | Then just after Christmas, they came from afar
Some magi, the wise men, they followed a star
Crossing the desert, oasis to spring
Coming to worship the new baby king |
Crossing the desert, oasis to spring
Coming to worship the new baby king
... | Twas the night they arrived in the palace so grand
When King Herod heard and he made his demand
‘How can there be here a king except me,’
‘Tell me where, tell me where will this baby king be?’ |
‘How can there be here a king except me,’
‘Tell me where, tell me where will this baby king be?’
... | The chief priests consulted the teachers of Law:
‘Bethlehem in Judea, the prophet foresaw
‘Will not be the least for from there comes a ruler
The shepherd of Israel; but better and cooler.’ |
‘Will not be the least for from there comes a ruler
The shepherd of Israel; but better and cooler.’
... | Herod called them to him, with questions so sly
When did you first see His star in the sky?
Go now! Go! Find him! I say
For I want to worship him too, in my way. |
Go now! Go! Find him! I say
For I want to worship him too, in my way.
... | The Magi to Bethlehem hurry that day
They see the star shining; lighting their way.
They come the child-king and fall at his feet
They bow down and worship, their joy now complete |
They come the child-king and fall at his feet
They bow down and worship, their joy now complete
... | They offered their treasures; gifts from the east.
Frankinsense ‘cos he would be our high priest
Myrhh, a scent for the day he would die
Gold for a King, risen, Lord upon high |
Myrhh, a scent for the day he would die
Gold for a King, risen, Lord upon high
... | The magi slept badly, disturbed by a dream
Of Herod, that faker! So alert to his scheme,
Went not to his palace, spoke not to that toad
Traveling home by alternative road. |
Went not to his palace, spoke not to that toad
Traveling home by alternative road.
... | ‘Tis the night before Christmas and all through your head
Race thoughts of your gifts! You can’t sleep in your bed!
But one thing you need. One question I bring.
Have you seen his star? Have you worshiped your King? |
So Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem went... | Twas the night (o' the) first Christmas and all through the skies |
BIG words to be sung for a small baby's birth... | Then just after Christmas they came from afar |
Coming to worship the new baby king... | Twas the night they arrived in the palace so grand |
Tell me where, tell me where, will this baby king be?... | The chief priests consulted the teachers of law |
The shepherd of Israel but better and cooler... | Herod called them to him with his questions so sly |
For I want to worship him, too, in my way... | The Magi to Bethlehem hurry that day |
They bow down and worship, their joy now complete... | They offer their treasures, gifts from the east |
Gold for a king, risen Lord upon high... | The magi slept badly, disturbed by a dream |
Traveling home by alternative road... | 'Tis the night before Christmas and all through your head |
