Question:

Talk about the properties of covering epithelium?

Author: H K

Answer:

--Renewal: they are exposed to wear and aging lowering their lifespan, they renew by proliferation of stem cells (replacement cells), stem cells divide and the rate of their renewal is different according to epithelium ---Permiability: they act as barriers however their permiability is selective because of the basal lamina (that separates it from chorion), serves as a selective filter.

Alternative answers:

Regeneration: each cell is exposed to risks and wear that reduce its lifespan, when cells degenerate, they regenerate via proliferation of stem cells, regeneration time varies among each cell type... permeability: the membrane of epithelial cells is selectively permeable due to basal lamina that barries it from chondrions.

Other viable answers (Added by users whilst learning):

Renewal: each cell is exposed to risks and wear that reduce its lifespan, cells renew by proliferation of stem cells that varies among the types of cells.. permiablility: membrane of epithilial cells is permeable but it is selective since the basal lamina acts as a selective filter separating it from chorion
