Question:

Weick's pulsating organizational model (meso perspective)

Author: Sixten Bigner Af Klintberg

Answer:

(Advanced symbolic framework) Based on Weick's seven properties of sensemaking, he created the pulsating organizational model. It says that all groups which work together will gradually become more specialized and divide labor. Group members continuously learn from one another and and take on complementary roles. After some time the individuals develop certain nischs and labor becomes divided, in accordance with the structural framework. However, this will also lead to many differences in opinion. The differences in opinion ultimately result in group members beginning to interact with each other again, more in accordance with the HR framework. Weick's pulsating organizational model illustrates how an organization is never in a stable mode, but rather "pulsates" back and forward from structural ideals to HR ideals.
