Ensures the circulation of the crude sap, a very dilute aqueous solution of mineral salts, from the roots to the aerial parts of the plant. This tissue can be primary or secondary tissue (wood). The wood insures a mechanical support to the whole plant. The xylem is a complex tissue consisting of conducting elements (vessels and tracheid), parenchyma cells and fibers.
