Question:

What is photosynthesis and what are the photosynthetic organelles?

Author: H K

Answer:

During photosynthesis, plants, algae and photosynthetic bacteria capture light energy to synthesize complex organic molecules (sugars) from simple inorganic elements (water and carbon dioxide), while releasing the oxygen. Photosynthesis is carried out in the chloroplasts of plant cells or in specialized regions of the cell membrane (thylakoids) of prokaryotes.
