Changes in number and structure of chromosomes can lead to cancer. E.g. chronic myeloid leukemia is a translocation between chromosome 9 and 22. The bcr is on the breakpoint of chromosome 22 translocation of this chromosome fuses genes together, the oncogenic fusion gene activates signals for cell growth.
