Occurs in the presence of bright light photoreceptors in the retina detect the light stimulus an action potential is generated in the bipolar neurones then the optic nerve the action potential travels along the sensory neurone to the brain the brain transmitts an action potential along the oculomotor neurones to the circular muscles in the iris they contract and the pupil constricts, getting smaller
