Tolerance systems: inducible error-prone repair

Low-fidelity DNA polymerases (translesion synthesis polymerases(TSPs)) can synthesise DNA past damaged bases. Not efficient at replicating undamaged DNA accurately. Each TSP appears to have a different substrate specificity.
