Question:

Myosin II

Author: Alex Rapai

Answer:

It takes approximately 5-10 nm steps and then releases from the actin filament so the distance moved returns to zero as there is no force applied during this time. Myo II only spends 10% of its time attached to an actin filament (Duty ratio = 10%). Because myosin II filaments in muscle have multiple single heads -one or more is always bound otherwise muscle wouldn’t be able to do work.
