An electromagnetic wave is a transverse wave, that transfers energy from the source of the waves to the absorber, e.g. a microwave, that transfers energy from the source of the waves; the oven, to the absorber; food, and solar panels that use light waves to transfer energy from the source; the Sun, to the absorber; solar panels on the spacecraft.
