Bacterial/Cellular Features Initial Lesion

Author: Brittani Bogdane

Answer:

Bacteria colonise along the gingival margin JE cells release cytokines, PGE, MMPs, TNF these calls stimulate an immune/inflammatory response which brings PMNs to the site of infection PMS pass into the gingival connective tissue and they release cytokines, cytokine destroy health gingival connective tissue to allow PMNs to quickly reach the infected tissue to destroy harmful bacteria PMN migration to the gingival sulcus to fight bacterial infection (phagocytize bacteria) If bacteria are destroyed tissues can be repaired and the infection can be stopped and progression to gingivitis will not occur
