1st- is an INCREASING SINGLE DOSE either daily or every alternate day 2nd- involves MULTIPLE DOSING at each level prior to INCREASE. No determination of efficacy is usually possible at this stage generally not blinded and take about 1 year to complete Once this tolerance and safety screen is complete, the studies advance into efficacy and tolerance in patients.
