Question:

What is gating?

Author: Mirte Schattorie

Answer:

Gating is the sequential identification and refinement of a subpopulation of cells, which is done by using a panel of molecules (markers) that are visualised by fluorescence; it is the selective identification of subpopulations of cells, done manually. a gate is a numerical or graphical boundary that contains only a specific subset of cells; e.g. cells with only the CD14+ surface marker.
