Melphalan

Melphalan , a phenylalanine derivative of nitrogen mustard, is used in the treatment of multiple myeloma. This is a bifunctional alkylating agent that can be given orally. Although melphalan can be given orally, the plasma concentration differs from patient to patient due to variation in intestinal absorption and metabolism. The dose of melphalan is carefully adjusted by monitoring the platelet and white blood cell counts.
