If you keep stretching a spring with more weight, what happens?The beginning will show that the more force = more extension. It will be in gradient which is dictated by the Spring Constant [Stiffness] However it will soon disobey the Hooke's Law [The Formula] and will go past the return of elastic deformation. This means the Spring cannot turn back to its previous shape and is now in Plastic Deformation.
When a force deforms a object, what is done to stretch the object [or bend etc...]Work is done. Energy is Transferred.
Where is the energy transferred too?In a Elastic deformation, the energy is transferred to the objects Elastic Potential Energy Store.
What is the equation for the Energy Transferred in Stretching?Energy Transferred in Stretching [J] = 0.5 x Spring Constant [N/m] x (Extension)² (m)²
How can you find it in a Force-Extension Graph?It is equal to the area underneath the line in the Graph. You cannot however find it above the Elastic Limit.
