What was the church in medieval england?

Author: Serena Ewane

Answer:

The church was the centre of medieval life. monks, nuns, priests, bishops, archbishops and the pope all worked for the church. monks and nuns would often work in infirmaries and help provide healthcare as well as reading and teaching selected kids how to read. priests care for people's spiritual lives. bishops would lead the church, level taxes and supervise the people below them in the church. archbishops oversaw multiple churches and were there in a bishops time of need. the pope issued orders to the king and could excommunicate him from the church. popes were more powerful than kings at the time.
