In Luke the return to Nazareth from Bethlehem is little more than 40 days afterwards. Locations: Matthew: family home Bethlehem, journey to Egypt, settle in Nazareth; Luke: family home Nazareth, journey to Bethlehem (census), visit Jerusalem and then return to Nazareth.
